Kama Bay Area
Crag: Kama Bay
Rating: WI5+, 50m
Location: Interesting climbing on excellent albeit somewhat thin ice, this is one of the better routes of this type in Kama Bay. The route is located in a clean steep chimney 30 meters to the right of Shelobs Lair (J. Loveridge March 04) in a large left-facing corner.
A small overhang guards the start of the route, turn this directly on good ice, climb steepening ground to excellent sustained vertical ice, much of which is protected with 10cm screws. I found the chimney notable for its relative lack of both footholds and suitable cracks for protection; although most of the route was completed by headlamp so features may well have been missed. A selection of shorter screws provides good protection and a spectre protects the top out moves and snow ramp.
Descent: Rappel from slung birches on the left.
First Ascent: Matt Giambrone, Dean Einerson, Jan. 5, 2006
